The road to reality has been a rocky one for Nikolaj Arcel's adaptation of Stephen King's classic Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Western genre bender, The Dark Tower. After JJ Abrams and Ron Howard both came close to taking on the ambitious project, Arcel was signed by Sony to tweak the script and direct the movie, which is now slated for a 2017 release. After an 8-year journey, things have moved incredibly quickly since Arcel's 2015 recruitment, and the movie has now been in production for a number of months.

Despite the fact that cameras have been rolling for a while, we were yet to see a shot of Matthew McConaughey's 'Man in Black'. But, that's all changed now as production moved to New York City, bringing with it our first glimpse of the Texan in full, black costume.

McConaughey wasn't alone though. Idris Elba was also spotted in full 'Gunslinger' costume, and it's all starting to feel tantalizingly real.

The Dark Tower is released on February 17th 2017
