Kiefer Sutherland Returns for Flatliners Remake
The OG 'Flatliner' is returning to breathe some life into a remake of the classic 1990's sci-fi horror flick. In Joel Schumacher's original movie, Sutherland played the lead role of Nelson Wright, a young medical school trainee who gets curious about what happens at the moment of a person's death. This time, Sutherland will be playing a 'seasoned doctor' and while we don't know if this will be a callback to his original character, there seems ample opportunity to do so.

Sutherland joins a strong cast of Hollywood up and comers, including The Vampire Diaries' Nina Dobrev, James Norton of War and Peace fame, Dope's Kiersey Clemons, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story's Diego Luna. Ellen Page will also feature. Niels Arden Oplev is slated to direct, with a script coming from Source Code screenwriter, Ben Ripley.

While the original Flatliners wasn't exactly universally praised, it has gone on to develop something of a cult following over recent years. The film's approach to exploring the border between life and death was certainly an original one, and things get pretty trippy towards the end. It also had a pretty solid cast, with Julia Roberts and Kevin Bacon both starring alongside Sutherland. Will we see either of those two OG stars make a return of the reboot? Let's hope so.

Flatliners is expected to hit theaters at some point in late 2017.
