Suicide Squad: New Rogues Gallery Portraits and Character Descriptions
Suicide Squad is becoming one of the most anticipated comic book movies of the year, and although we have their comics counterparts to go on, we still don't know very much about the members. Now, EW has in-character portraits of the main cast, as well as new character descriptions that offer plot details not revealed in the new synopsis.

Many of the details we already knew: Deadshot is a "conflicted" assassin-for-hire who "enjoys the hunt but is still trying to do right by his young daughter," June Moon is a "sweet and pure" archaeologist who has been possessed by the "menacing" witch Enchantress, Amanda Waller is their "ambitious" and "devious" handler who will stop at nothing to further her own agenda, no matter whom she has to hurt in the process, and Rick Flag is her loyal enforcer, even when he doesn't agree with her methods.

Harley Quinn is described as a "manipulative" former psychiatrist who "unites the squad as much as she messes with their minds," which indicates that she may be using her knowledge of psychology against her fellow members. Katana, Rick Flag's right-hand woman, has a "strong moral code" and is mourning the death of her husband. Diablo is described as "monastic" and has "squelched his fire-conjuring powers to a solitary flame as penance for the horrors he inflicted on those he's loved." And Jared Leto's Joker is described as different from any Joker we've seen before: "less theatrical than Jack Nicholson, more unhinged than Heath Ledger-but no less psychotic."

Opening quote
Suicide Squad follows the events of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and takes place in a post-Superman world where the government tries to determine how to respond in the event that an alien with more villainous intentions visits Earth. Ruthless intelligence officer Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) offers to recruit society's worst criminals, those possessing lethal skills and superhuman powers. Her first target: the possessed archaeologist June Moone/Enchantress (Cara Delevingne).

When Midway City is threatened by a powerful mystical enemy, Waller's plan gets the go-ahead. She cuts deals with the whole squad of prisoners: Deadshot (Will Smith) gets his Second Amendment rights reinstated, Harley (Margot Robbie) is set free from her cage, Diablo (Jay Hernandez) steps out of his fireproof prison, Boomerang (Jai Courtney) and Slipknot (Adam Beach) each get to wield their signature weapons once more, and Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) emerges from the swamp. The only condition is this: Obey orders or die. This is strictly enforced by squad leader Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), the samurai Katana (Karen Fukuhara), and of course the explosive devices – developed by Wayne Enterprises – inserted into their necks. However, the arrival of the tatted-up Gotham City mega-criminal, the Joker (Jared Leto), might doom the mission thanks to his plan to reunite with his true love, Harley.
