David Ayer Says There Could Be a "Zillion" Suicide Squad Sequels and Spin-Offs
Suicide Squad doesn't come out for a few weeks, but it's already getting plenty of positive buzz. So much so, in fact, that Warner Bros. has already planned a spin-off movie for Harley Quinn, who is rumored to be the breakout character of the film. But director David Ayer is confident that it won't stop there, as they're looking to make many, many more sequels and spin-offs about the villains/antiheroes of the DCEU.
Opening quote
"Because of the nature of the comic book universe and the DC Universe, it's really infinite in any way you can go, especially the DC Universe," Ayer said during a press set visit (via CBR). "I think it's one of the most complex fiction universes with 'Crisis' and pre-'Crisis' and the multi-dimensional nature and all the timelines. Each one of these characters could be their own film. The Suicide Squad could be a zillion films."
Closing quote

Obviously, it would take many, many years to get to a zillion movies, but the point stands that Warner Bros. is looking to make Suicide the lynchpin of the DCEU. And, in turn, they're looking to make the DCEU into another "forever franchise," to compete with other infinite franchises like Marvel and Star Wars

Margot Robbie, who plays Harley Quinn, expressed similar sentiments, as she is seemingly contracted to play this character until she dies:

Opening quote
"Oh, I heard forever. I could play Harley for a long time. I don't know how long. We've signed on I think everyone is committed to a couple of films.

"And there is so much you can do. They are the kind of characters that you can keep exploring and find so much more to do. Until my body can't do the stunts anymore. That's probably when they will bring a new Harley in."
Closing quote

Suicide Squad comes out in theaters on August 5. Pre-order ticket sales go up on Friday, July 15.
