Danny McBride Says There's No Comic Relief in Alien: Covenant
When we first learned that Danny McBride had scored a role in Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant, we weren't alone in expecting a few more light-hearted notes were to be injected into this most-famous of sci-fi horror franchises. After all, McBride is best known for providing laughs in the likes of This is the End, and HBO's Eastbound and Down. The actor himself admits he was surprised to have been selected by Ridley Scott for the movie, revealing his bewilderment at the decision in a new interview.

Opening quote
"Why would he be interested in me in this?" McBride told HitFix. Am I going to be the silly, you know, just the comic relief?

While previous Alien movies have had their light-hearted moments, McBride is justified in his surprise at a man of his comedic talents being added in a major role to a movie like Alien: Covenant. Later in that same interview, though, McBride reveals that he won't be there to add his usual comic relief, quite simply because there is no comic relief in the entire movie. In fact, McBride appears to back up previous takes on the movie which suggest that it's going to scare the crap out of all of us.

Opening quote
"Then I got the script and I'm like this s–t is dark! There is no comic relief in this at all. This is a dark horror movie. And that was exciting. To be able to step into something like that and to participate in a way that not relying on things I'd done before."
