Alden Ehrenreich is Confirmed as LucasFilm's Young Han Solo, Production Starts Early 2017
It was the worst kept secret in Star Wars history, but at Star Wars Celebration today, we finally got confirmation that Alden Ehrenreich will play Han Solo in the upcoming Star Wars standalone movie.

Ehrenreich was a surprise on-stage addition to the Future Filmmakers panel at Celebration London, joining his directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller in discussing what was in store for the future of Star Wars movies.

Lord and Miller detailed the lengthy audition process for the movie, saying it was the biggest casting decision they had ever made. Thousands of people auditioned for the role, but Lord and Miller revealed that Ehrenreich was actually the first one through the door in the casting room.

Once he made it to the shortlist, Ehrenreich revealed that his final audition saw him wearing the actual Han Solo costume (blaster and all) and having to screen test alongside a full in-costume Chewbacca and sharing the stage of the Millennium Falcon. "The coolest part of the audition was, I got to go on the Falcon," Ehrenreich said that the excitement of being on the Falcon was what helped him steel his nerves during the audition.

Later on in the same panel, Lord and Miller revealed that the Han Solo standalone movie will go into production in either January or February 2017.
