The new Power Rangers movie might feel like a fever dream, but it really is happening, and production is well underway (in case all those pictures of Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa hadn't tipped you off). Now, Lionsgate is giving us our first look at the Power Rangers themselves in costume with the faces of the actors revealed. Take a look:

From left to right, that's Kimberly the Pink Ranger (Naomi Scott), Billy the Blue Ranger (RJ Cyler), Jason the Red Ranger (Dacre Montgomery), Zack the Black Ranger (Ludi Lin), and Trini the Yellow Ranger (Becky G). Now, we'd already seen the full Iron Man-inspired costumes themselves, but this picture further reveals the influence the shellhead seems to have had on the suits' design. In the old Mighty Morphin Power Rangers TV series, the rangers' faces were never visible while in costume; they could only be seen if they removed their helmet. But in the new film, it seems as if the suit has an Iron Man-like screen that can retract without the helmet being removed, fitting in with the recent trend in movies of superheroes like Iron Man and Captain America often fighting with their faces completely exposed.

This is certainly good for the actors, who get more face time, and it should help the audience as well. Since this cast is young and largely unknown, it will definitely help their characters' chances of connecting with fans if we can actually tell who's in what suit. The flashy Iron Man-style suits may not be for everyone, but the update is probably necessary if the movie hopes to compete with other modern sci-fi blockbusters.
