The Flash’s Season 3 Trailer Previews the World of Flashpoint
The Flash in undoubtedly DC's greatest recent small screen success, and it recently followed up on a fantastic first season with a phenomenal second one. It's had just the right amount of source material and originality, and the perfect mix of heart and sci-fi spectacle. As the show ended it's sophomore season on a huge twist, fans have been dying to see what crazy tales are coming up next from Central City's fastest man alive. Following the WB TV panel at SDCC, they've been given a preview of just that.

When The Flash went on break, Barry Allen had just traveled back in time to stop the Reverse Flash from killing his mother. This was an event that took inspiration from the famed Geoff Johns comic story, Flashpoint, in which Barry ends up altering the timeline, losing his powers, and living in a strange new world where almost everything is changed.

Though the Flashpoint of the comics and the Flashpoint of the TV are already clearly quite different beasts, it seems that Barry is going to be faced with the same struggle from Johns' instant classic story. Will Barry let the world slide into chaos because he saved his mother, or will he go back and correct his mistake? One of those choices makes him the villain, the other a hero. Or at the very least, a guy who cleans up his own messes.

It's too soon to say just how different this world of Flashpoint will be in the TV series, though it's obvious there are some very big changes from the comics. There probably won't be a Flashpoint Batman or a war between Themyscira and Atlantis. However, Wally West is a speedster in this world, and Cisco Ramon is the richest man in America. There's sure to be other major changes in there as well, and finding out what they are will undoubtedly be one of the most exciting parts of season 3.

When Barry fixes things and un-saves his mother in the comics, things go pretty much back to normal, though there are still some major, major changes (all of the differences between pre-52 and New 52 comics are due to Flashpoint). It'll be extremely interesting to see if similarly drastic changes come to the CW TV universe when everything's put back to normal as well.

The Flash season 3 kicks off on October 14th, 2016 on the CW.
