Michael Fassbender Says Alien: Covenant Is "Much Scarier Than Prometheus"
Between the cast changes, the title change, and the apparent shift back to practical effects, Alien: Covenant is working overtime to emphasize its Alien roots rather than its Prometheus pedigree. Star Michael Fassbender is now continuing this effort to distance Covenant from the Prometheus franchise, as he says that it's "much scarier" than the first film:

Opening quote
"I'm very excited to see [Alien: Covenant] and everybody in the film was saying this is a film that we all want to see," Fassbender told Collider. "It's much scarier than Prometheus but it's got the same sort of scope of Prometheus. It's kind of got more of the sort of thriller, imminent disaster feel that Alien had, so it's kind of a beautiful meeting of both of those films. I'm really excited to see it, I think it's gonna be super scary number one and then again with the massive scope of Prometheus… Once it starts and the ball starts rolling, it doesn't let up. It's really gonna bring chills to the cinema."
Closing quote

It's always great to hear that Covenant will openly be a part of the Alien franchise, rather than a straight continuation of the disappointing Prometheus. And while Prometheus had a few bone-chilling moments (the alien C-section springs to mind), it didn't ratchet up the tension nearly as much as it should have, so hopefully Covenant will rectify that.

Opening quote
Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they believe to be an uncharted paradise, but which is actually a dark, dangerous world whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
Closing quote

Alien: Covenant also stars Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, Noomi Rapace, Demian Bichir, Jussie Smollett, Amy Seimetx, Carmen Ejogo, and Billy Crudup. It comes out on August 4, 2017.
