Disney Might Be Considering an Entire Han Solo Star Wars Trilogy
At Star Wars Celebration earlier this month, Alden Ehrenreich was officially unveiled as the man tasked with filling the sizable shoes of Harrison Ford by playing a young Han Solo in the next Star Wars standalone movie.

While the idea of 'Rogue One', the first Star Wars standalone, has been generally well-received by Star Wars fans, the notion of seeing someone new take on a role as iconic Han Solo has received a far more mixed response. Many have questioned whether anybody other than Ford could pull off the role of Han Solo for an entire movie, but a new report suggests that in Ehrenreich, Disney believe they've got someone who could potentially anchor an entire Han Solo trilogy.

According to NY Daily News, the studio has signed Ehrenreich to a three-picture deal.

Opening quote
"There is a real sense of excitement around the Han Solo movie and its potential," says NY Daily News's source. "Given that Han's early adventures do not need to be tied to the Empire, it leaves story lines open with the opportunity to really give fans something different. They can explore new galaxies and crazy creatures and bring in a wide array of new characters.

They feel that his character has the right potential to become a central figure in several movies," the source continued. "They're keeping things under wraps at the moment, but the deal is that he has signed for at least three movies"
Closing quote

Of course, this doesn't necessarily mean that a Han Solo trilogy is a dead cert. Should this report turn out to be true, any trilogy option would only be taken up after careful consideration of critical and fan opinion, and most importantly, box office success. Personally, I can't help but think that this feels like overkill. A Han Solo prequel, while not at all necessary to the Star Wars universe, is at least feasible for one true standalone movie. But, the idea of an entire trilogy doesn't just feel unnecessary, it feels wildly ambitious....and not in a good way.
