Stranger Things Season 2 Will Be a "Sequel"
Netflix's Stranger Things is taking the world by storm, with enough fans binge-watching it over the last couple of weekends that a second season has already been confirmed. Now, we have our first intel on what that second season might look like, as the executive producers tease that it will feel less like a second season and more like a "sequel."

Speaking to IGN, Matt and Ross Duffer said they viewed the film as a long-form movie rather than a TV series, since Netflix's binge-watching allows it to have a cinematic and novelistic quality. So if the first season was like the first film of a series, the second season will act as a sequel:

Opening quote
"We wanted to do a couple things with this season," said Matt Duffer. "We didn't want to do The Killing thing. We wanted it to resolve that main thing of Will going missing in the first season. So in that sense, it is like an eight-hour movie. Now, we don't answer all the questions by the end of the season - there are definitely some dangling threads. The hope is that it feels satisfying but that we left room and that if people respond to it we can go back into this world. But if we do get to go back, it's not a second season as much as a sequel."

From the sounds of it, the word "sequel" is supposed to imply that the second season will be more standalone than many other shows' sophomore seasons would be, but that it's not exactly an anthology either. Anthology series have become more popular recently, but Ross Duffer assured fans that it will involve the same characters:

Opening quote
"We leave these dangling threads at the end," he told Variety. "If people respond to this show and we get to continue this story - we had those initial discussions of where we might go with it. If there was going to be a season two, we would reveal more of that 30-page document, but we'd still want to keep it from the point of view of our original characters."

In addition to revealing more of the 30-page document, the second season will also resolve several cliffhangers that were left at the end of season one, such as Eleven's disappearance:

Opening quote
"Obviously something happened to her when she destroyed and killed that monster and we don't know what she went," said Matt Duffer. "Hopper is left with this guilt because he sold her out. We wanted to leave it sort of mysterious exactly what he knows… Have there been sightings in the woods or is he hoping she's out there or has he already made contact with her? We don't answer any of that, but we like the idea of potentially putting her and Hopper together."
