The First Trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Might Be Months Away
The lucky fans who caught Marvel's Hall H panel at San Diego Comic Con this year got to see the first amazing footage from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which included the adorable Baby Groot, severed toes, and the reveal of Star-Lord's father (which, in turn, raised questions about a sentient planet's genitals). But unfortunately, fans who weren't in attendance might have to wait a long time for an official trailer to drop, since it might not be released on the internet until Doctor Strange comes out.
At SDCC, fans saw a clip involving Baby Groot jailbreaking Yondu and Rocket Raccoon, but then they saw a collection of footage that looked very much like a trailer. According to Kevin Feige, this wasn't an official trailer, but a sizzle reel, and the real trailer won't drop for quite a while. When asked by Collider if James Gunn's estimate that it would come out "in the next few months" was accurate, Feige said:

Opening quote
"That sounds fair, that sounds fair... It is not coming anytime soon. It might come the next time a Marvel studios movie comes out."
Closing quote

So in other words, we probably won't see the official trailer until November, which seems like an interminably long wait. However, it would make sense, because although we're all very impatient to see the trailer, that would still be seven months before the film's release date, which is pretty normal. But still, we hope that they're just blowing smoke so they can surprise us with the footage a little earlier than that.

Feige also explained whether Baby Groot, who almost wasn't included in the movie at all, is still the old Groot in the sense of having all of adult Groot's memories:

Opening quote
"He remembers. He's not mentally a baby, he is still Groot… I sort of equate it to Spock circa the end of Search for Spock and The Voyage Home."
Closing quote

This is interesting, since at first it seemed like Baby Groot was a way to make sure that Groot's "death" in the first Guardians had consequences, without actually getting rid of everyone's favorite character. But we're not complaining, since it will be even more interesting to see the same old adult Groot in an adorable Baby Groot body.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters on May 5, 2017.
