Marvel Just Cast Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s New Director
When Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. brought its third season to a close, the show teased that Season 4 would see Coulson and his team reporting to a new boss. The identity of the new Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. was to be the big mystery of the show's off-season...or at least that's what we thought. In a surprising move, Marvel today announced that they've found the actor who will play the new boss over at the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division.

James O'Mara has scored the role of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s new director, playing a character who, according to the official release, has Marvel roots dating as far back as the 1940's.

Opening quote
"Bringing Jason into the mix as the New Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. forces everyone, particularly Coulson, to reevaluate their role in the Agency," Marvel's Jeph Loeb. "Jason has both the physical presence and acting dynamics that will connect with and challenge even the most loyal agent."
Closing quote

O'Mara is probably best known to most geeks as the man who has voiced Batman in countless DC Animated movies and TV shows. In fact, you'll soon be hearing his gruff tones in the upcoming DC Animated movie, Justice League Dark. However, many will also know him from the short-lived sci-fi drama, Terra Nova in which he played the Sheriff of the titular time-traveling settlement.

But, while we now know the name of the actor playing the new director, we don't know the name of the character. That particular mystery, it would seem, will be the enduring question on everyone's minds between now and the show's return.
