Callie Hernandez says Alien: Covenant's Xenomorph is Terrifying
After the mixed reactions fans had to Ridley Scott's Prometheus, the British director's next Alien movie has a lot riding on it. Fortunately, there's an overwhelming sense of optimism surrounding Alien: Covenant, and while the proof is definitely going to be in the pudding, it feels as though all the right noises are being made by the people involved. The latest in this long line of encouraging tidbits comes from Callie Hernandez who finished shooting on the project back in June.

Something the Ridley Scott has been keen to put in place with his Alien movies is an emphasis on practical effects. According to Hernandez, that emphasis was clear for all to see on the set of Alien: Covenant.

Opening quote
"The sets are very real," Hernandez told SlashFilm. "You're in this built ship and then he's like [in British accent], 'Turn on the hydraulics.' Then you're like, what is he talking about? Then it's suddenly shaking and you're like, 'Oh, that's what he means.' So the sets were pretty unreal."

But an Alien movie is nothing without its big bads. Slashfilm asked Hernandez whether or not seeing the physical Xenomorph effect on set took away from the mystique and terror of the beast, but the actor said it was every bit as scary in real life as it would be on screen.

Opening quote
"No, it was just as terrifying as you would ever imagine it to be,"
Closing quote

After Michael Fassbender said Alien: Covenant would "bring chills to the cinema," and Ridley Scott said it would scare the shit out of people, we're starting to think that either this crew are the ultimate hype-team, or this could genuinely be the scary Alien movie we've been waiting so long for.
