ABC Explains Why They Passed on Marvel's Most Wanted
Marvel's Most Wanted was, at one point, one of the most anticipated pilots of the 2016-2017 season, especially among sci-fi and comic book fans. We were all surprised when ABC decided to pass on it, since big franchises like Marvel are usually a safe bet when it comes to ratings. Now, ABC President Channing Dungey has an explanation for declining to produce the show, and it's pretty much what you'd expect.

Opening quote
"Most Wanted, ultimately at the end of the day, did not feel as strong as some of the other pilots that we shot," Dungey said at TCA (via Slashfilm). "We talked about it with Marvel and we all came to an agreement that we want to figure out what the next show is that we do together, is something that we all feel is as creatively strong as it can be.

It seems that ABC simply passed on the pilot because it wasn't good enough, which is actually a little encouraging, since you would almost expect them to accept it just because it's Marvel. It is a shame that there doesn't seem to be any more plans to rework the pilot, though, since a Bobbi Morse/Lance Hunter show sounds amazing on its face.

But that being said, ABC isn't stopping Marvel from trying to find another home for the pilot, like Netflix (although it would definitely have to be reworked to fit into the darker Marvel/Netflix universe):

Opening quote
[Most Wanted] was a joint partnership between Marvel and ABC Studios. We certainly are open if they were to find another home for it to have that happen.

And the fact that ABC has passed on Most Wanted doesn't necessarily mean anything for other future Marvel/ABC collaborations. Dungey said the network is still eager to develop more Marvel projects, like the long-rumored Powerless-esque sitcom Damage Control and that mysterious project from John Ridley.

Opening quote
We're looking at a number of different things. Some of them are projects that we've worked on before and others are totally new ideas and IP.

And as for whether Bobbi and Lance will come back to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Dungey doesn't have an answer, but she teases their possible return (which we all know will happen, at least if Most Wanted doesn't find another home):

Opening quote
"Interesting question, one that Marvel's probably best positioned to answer," ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said during the panel. "The characters were sort of disavowed in the show as they call it, but I never underestimate Marvel's ability to bring people back."
