Deadpool 2 Will Poke Fun at the Oversaturation of Superhero Sequels
In this oversaturated superhero movie landscape, there are so many sequels, spin-offs, team-ups, and universes that we barely know what to do with all of them. But the unusually innovative Deadpool burst onto the scene this year, it has found a way to make its inevitable sequel feel less perfunctory: making fun of perfunctory superhero sequels.

Speaking at TCA (via Comicbook.com), producer Simon Kinberg said Deadpool 2 would continue the Merc with a Mouth's tradition of meta-humor, particularly when it comes to the concept of a superhero sequel:

Opening quote
"I think Deadpool 2 will comment on anything that's happening in movies today, especially in superhero movies," Kinberg said, and specified that it will poke fun at "the sort of glut or saturation of these movies and the proliferation of sequels."
Closing quote

While this is something we could have guessed would come up at some point in the movie, it's great to hear that it will be a significant part of the sequel. It essentially sounds like Deadpool 2 will be to superhero sequels as Scream 2 was to horror sequels. And considering that Scream 2 is considered to be one of the few sequels that lives up to or surpasses its predecessor, that can only mean good things.

Deadpool 2 is slated to be released on January 12, 2018.
