Rumor: The Walking Dead Is Casting a Female Leader
The Walking Dead is expanding its world significantly this season; after introducing the Hilltop Colony and the Saviors in season six, season seven will also see the appearance of Ezekiel and the Kingdom, and possibly the All-Out War storyline. But will we see the Whisperers as well? A rumored casting call has surfaced, and it sounds an awful lot like the villainous leader of the mysterious survivor group.

The casting call for the part of "Brion," which comes from Spoiling Dead Fans (via Comicbook.com), reportedly reads as follows:

Opening quote
"Brion is an educated, pokerfaced leader who has a superior air and does not let his/her motives be known. Brion uses as few words as possible and keeps his/her emotions in check — we do see amusement, annoyance, displeasure. Brion just doesn't wear their emotions on their sleeve; he/she is confident, quiet, and chiefly concerned with how anything may benefit him/her and those he/she knows."
Closing quote

First, the casting call goes out of its way not to specify a gender, which means that it's probably (read: hopefully) a female leader. The most obvious choice is Alpha, the leader of the Whisperers, a clan of survivors who disguise themselves with walker skin a la the first season episode "Guts." Not only is she a female leader, but she has demonstrably tried to hide her emotions—particularly when it comes to her daughter—and is ruthless when trying to protect her group.

However, it doesn't seem very likely that they would introduce the Whisperers so quickly. Their introduction is a huge moment in the comics, and it doesn't happen until after All-Out War is over and a two-year time jump. If anything, they will probably be the antagonists of the eighth season, at the earliest, and this character is set to appear in the tenth and twelfth episodes of the seventh season, with the final two episodes as possibilities.

So who could it be? Since Brion is not a name we've ever heard in the comics, there's a chance that it's a new character altogether (especially since they're being flexible about his/her gender). There's also a chance that it's Magna, the leader of the DC-based group that Jesus runs into in the comics, who starts off as an antagonist but eventually becomes an ally. She doesn't fit the description as well as Alpha does, but she does have ambiguous motives, so it's possible that Brion is a remixed version of Magna.

The Walking Dead returns for season seven on October 23 at 9pm on AMC.
