New Captain America: Civil War Deleted Scene Nods to Bucky Becoming Captain America
Captain America: Civil War was chock-full of comics references and Easter eggs, but as it turns out, a surprisingly exciting nod to the Captain America comics was cut from the film. In a newly released deleted scene, Bucky and Cap cheekily nod to Bucky taking up the Captain America mantle:

The deleted scene, which will appear in the special features on the Blu-ray, is an extended version of the airport fight scene. In the clip, War Machine almost gets the drop on Steve, but then Bucky saves him in the nick of time (aw). Steve thanks him, and Bucky says in passing, "I gotta get me one of those," referring to Cap's indestructible shield.

This is clearly meant to be a sly reference to the comics, in which Bucky takes over the mantle of Captain America for a time after Steve Rogers is killed. Fans (not to mention Stucky shippers) would have gone nuts over this Easter egg, so it's actually pretty surprising that they cut it. It's possible that, since Chris Evans is probably sticking around for a while, they didn't want to get fans' hopes up that Bucky will be taking up the shield anytime soon. Or, as long as we're speculating, it's also possible that they didn't want to include the scene because they're considering Sam Wilson as a successor to Steve Rogers, since Falcon also becomes Captain America in the comics.

Or, maybe they just didn't have enough time to include this scene, since it's not terribly substantive. But hey, we can dream.

Captain America: Civil War comes out on Blu-ray and DVD on September 13.
