Mark Hamill Heavily Implies He'll Return for Star Wars: Episode IX
In the age of internet spoilers, every single thing that happens to a franchise actor's appearance is under intense scrutiny (remember when the internet was buzzing that Rey had a new hairdo because Daisy Ridley put a pillowcase over her head?). Now, Mark Hamill is shaving off his beloved beard, and he's either spoiling all of us on his character's fate, or he's doing a supreme misdirect.

Hamill tweeted that he will be shaving off his beard "until Episode IX," which seems to indicate that the character will not go the way of Han Solo in Episode VIII. Of course, Disney could have requested he say something ambiguous like that in order to avoid spoiling the public with his new face, but it seems significantly more likely that Luke will live anyway.

Hamill finished filming Episode VIII, directed by Rian Johnson, in July, and it will open in theaters on December 15, 2017. Episode IX, directed by Colin Trevorrow, will be released sometime in 2019 (probably December).
