New Luke Cage Featurette Explores the Influence of Hip-Hop
Marvel's Netflix series are exploring more unique, distinctive corners of the Marvel Universe, and Luke Cage is no exception. From everything we've seen and heard from the show so far, the show is distinctly Harlem, which includes its soundtrack and hip-hop aesthetic. In a new featurette, the creative minds behind Luke Cage discuss the influence of hip-hop music on the series.

The video is the first installment of a digital series from Marvel/Netflix that will explore the social and historical significance of Luke Cage. In the video, showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker, along with music supervisors Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad and musical guests such as Method Man and A$ap Ferg were on hand to tell us why the hip-hop-heavy soundtrack reflects the fast-paced nature of the show, as well as the cultural import of being the first MCU property to headline a black superhero. We'll get a Black Panther movie in a few years, but Luke Cage seems to be embracing black culture in a groundbreaking way. As Younge said in the video, they "have a chance to make history here."

Luke Cage season one starts streaming on Netflix on September 30.
