Disney and Lucasfilm in Talks for Another Star Wars Animated Series

Are we about to see another Star Wars animated series come to television? According to Disney/ABC co-chairman Ben Sherwood, talks are currently ongoing to make another Star Wars animated show.

Years ago, George Lucas tried to make a live-action Star Wars TV series called Star Wars: Underworld, but due to budget constraints, the project never came to fruition. We got our hopes up when there were rumblings that ABC was in talks with Lucasfilm for another Star Wars TV show, but it looks like live-action is probably still a no-go with the network:

Opening quote
"The live-action Star Wars plan rests in the hands of [Walt Disney Studios chairman] Alan Horn, [Lucasfilm president] Kathy Kennedy and the great folks at Lucasfilm," Sherwood told THR. "Somewhere we hope in a galaxy not too far away there will be a television show that will air on one of our networks. But I wouldn't get anybody's hopes up too high. They have a lot of movies to make between now and then."
Closing quote

Considering the astronomical cost of a live-action Star Wars series, it's probably too much to hope for that this will happen. But luckily, there are apparently more concrete plans for another animated series.

Opening quote
"We are deep into a very productive relationship with Lucasfilm making [Disney XD's] Star Wars Rebels. And we are in ongoing conversations with them on what is the next Star Wars animated show."
Closing quote

We will probably always be curious about Star Wars: Underworld, and a live-action series in general, but an animated series is still great news. If it's as great as Clone Wars and the second season of Rebels, we'll be very, very excited.
