Is Alan Ritchson the DCEU’s Shazam?
Though Shazam! is still a relatively long way off, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was cast as the villain, Black Adam, almost two years ago. Though this was likely just a way for DC to call dibs on one of the most popular actors in Hollywood, it has led many to wonder why it is there hasn't been a casting announcement for the parts of Billy Batson and his alter ego, Shazam! Now, it looks like DC fans might finally get their answer, as Alan Ritchson recently tweeted about landing the role.

Though there hasn't been any studio confirmation as of yet, there's no evidence that Ritchson intended the Tweet as a joke. That means he's probably going to be the one putting on that red, lighting bolt super-suit come 2019. This is actually huge news for the DCEU, as Shazam is expected to join the Justice League in DC's equivalent to the MCU's phase two. If this information is legitimate, that means Ritchson will one day be teaming up with Cavill, Gadot, Affleck, Miller, Momoa, and Fisher on the big screen to defend the Earth with the Justice League in the upcoming team-up's sequels.

Ritchson is no stranger to DC properties, having played Aquaman in the now concluded Smallville. He's also starred in the most recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies as Raphael, and played the character Gloss in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Having been a part of so many action and sci-fi properties, he'll likely be a great fit for the part of Shazam.

Still, there's no news as of yet as to who will actually be playing Billy Batson. For those who don't know, Shazam is really a ten year-old boy who was granted the power to turn into the Earth's mightiest hero upon saying the magic word: Shazam! So while Ritchson may be the one duking it out with The Rock's Black Adam, the real star of the show has yet to be revealed.

Shazam is currently slated for a release on April 5th, 2019.
