Jurassic World and Doctor Strange Composer to Score Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
Disney and Lucasfilm undoubtedly have a lot riding on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. As the first standalone film in the series, it's success or failure will likely determine to some degree how the public views any Star Wars film to come after lacking the word "episode" in its title. Just as well, as it it's the first Star Wars film to feature the show's trademark villain, Darth Vader, in over a decade, the amount of fan outrage if the movie doesn't live up to expectations will likely be totally unparalleled.

Thankfully, Rogue One has an expert composer on the case. It was recently announced that Michael Giacchino will be scoring the film in place of the original composer, Alexandre Desplat, who was unable to complete the task due to the schedule changes effected by the reshoots. Though Desplat would have been a huge asset to the film, having scored films from the Harry Potter series, Argo, and a great deal of others, Giacchino has an equally compelling record, having worked on films like Jurassic World, Mission Impossible, Cloverfield, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and the rebooted Star Trek films. He's also scored a number of huge Pixar movies, such as The Incredibles.

Though some may initially find it alarming that such a huge replacement has been made so close to the film's release date, it must be remembered that everything is running on schedule and that Desplat only quit the project due to the fact that the schedule changes effected by the reboots interfered with other projects. Giacchino will likely have just as much time to work on the project as Desplat originally would have as well.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be one of the last major science fiction films of 2016, and everyone is hoping that it proves to be just as compelling as last year's Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Hopefully, that turns out to be the case. Either way, at least fans can take comfort in knowing the score will rock with Giacchino as composer. Perhaps not as much as it would if John Williams were doing it, but still.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set to hit theaters on December 16th.
