New 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' Clip Introduces a New Character Who Might Be...
In a preview clip from the September 27 episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agents Coulson and May are introduced to the new Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., whose name is finally revealed. Well, not his full name. Coulson calls him "Jeffrey," which has contributed to speculation that this mysterious character is actually an old-timey Marvel hero with a significant connection to Captain America. Here's why.

Before the clip aired, we already knew that the character played by Jason O'Mara was a Marvel character who dates back to the 1940s and who has a very "manly name," according to O'Mara. These facts, coupled with the first name of Jeffrey, have led most fans to believe that the new director is none other than Jeffrey Mace. So, who's Jeffrey Mace?

During World War II, inspired by Cap himself, Mace donned a patriotic costume and fought the Nazis as the superhero known as The Patriot. He also for a time became the third Captain America in the '40s after the original was presumed dead. And it's worth noting that he is the uncle of General Thunderbolt Ross. So this guy definitely is pretty connected in the Marvel Universe.

If the new Director is indeed Jeffrey Mace, then we have a lot of questions, most of them having to do with why he's not 100 years old. We're sure all will be revealed in due time, but for now, you can check out the preview clip below.
