Oh, snap—the trailer for Arrow Season 5 is here, and it's already racking up a body count. Not only is Oliver Queen stabbing bad guys in the gut and killing dudes in explosions, he wants everyone to know he's back to using deadly force—around the 0:27 second mark, he straight up tells some guy "If If you hit me again, I'm gonna kill you." Check out the trailer below!

The CW has already released a synopsis for the new season, too:

Opening quote
NEW BEGINNINGS - After Laurel's (Katie Cassidy) death and the departures of both Diggle (David Ramsey) and Thea (Willa Holland) from Team Arrow, Oliver (Stephen Amell) takes to the streets solo to protect Star City's citizens as the Green Arrow. With Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) guiding him from the bunker, Oliver is forced to deal with a city that has become overrun with both criminals and a slew of new (and painfully inexperienced) vigilantes. Watching Oliver try to balance his jobs as both the mayor and also the protector of Star City, Felicity suggests he form a new team, but Oliver resists. However, when a deadly new criminal, Tobias Church (guest star Chad L. Coleman), enters the picture, Oliver realizes the best thing for the city might be a new team of superheroes. Meanwhile, the flashbacks take us to Russia where Oliver faces off against the Bratva. James Bamford directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti and teleplay by Marc Guggenheim & Wendy Mericle.
Closing quote

The trailer is jam-packed with cool hooks, not least of which is the introduction to the potential new members of Team Arrow (with all their Eskrima stick-fighting action) and an intimidating new look at the masked man who wants Green Arrow dead. We also see the Bratva organization again and some of the new costumes for Queen's sidekicks, contained in Batman-esque alcoves. High-octane action abounds, with gunfire, assassinations, explosions, and acrobatics, like a hyper-violent version of Cirque du Soleil. It's exciting as hell.

But the biggest thing is that Oliver Queen is killing people again, which may signal a return to the dark tone of Seasons 1 & 2. The trailer even starts with Queen being confronted about the decision, which means the show creators want to showcase it. Even Robot Chicken made fun of the change to non-lethal methods, so it's refreshing to see Green Arrow disavowing Batman's One Rule—it makes things more interesting and more dangerous for the show (and for everyone's favorite archer).

Arrow returns Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 8/7c on The CW.
