J.J. Abrams Says We Can Expect a Portal Movie Announcement "Soon"
The Portal movie has been in development with none other than J.J. Abrams for several years, but we haven't heard news about it in so long, we were starting to get worried that it was entering development hell. But not only is Abrams still involved with the project, he says that we can expect real announcements to come out soon.

Speaking with IGN while promoting Westworld, Abrams said that his Portal and Half-Life adaptations are "still very much in development," and that for Portal, especially, we can expect announcements "fairly soon."

Opening quote
"We have a meeting coming up next week with Valve, we're very active, I'm hoping that there will be a Portal announcement fairly soon," said Abrams.

Abrams also stated that for both Half-Life and Portal, he is finding behind-the-scenes talent who are "rabid" about the properties.

Opening quote
"We are having some really interesting discussions with writers... As someone who loves playing Half-Life and Portal, what's the movie of this, it's incredible when you talk to someone who just 'gets' it, it's like, oh my god, it's really the seed for this incredible tree you're growing."
Closing quote

The films were first announced in 2013 at DICE. Then, early this year, Abrams announced that there were writers attached to the Portal movie, but we haven't heard anything about the projects since. Hopefully, these teases from Abrams mean that we'll get news of production dates, casting news, and/or release dates.
