Neil Gaiman's acclaimed novel American Gods will become a television show on Starz next year, and now it's about to conquer another medium. Gaiman has announced that as a result of all the hype for the TV show, the book will become a comic series starting in 2017.

Opening quote
"There's a tremendous amount of excitement, in my house and in the world, about the American Gods TV series coming up on Starz. What we've managed to keep a secret until now is that there is something just as exciting out there: American Gods, the comic," Gaiman said in a statement (via EW). "I've been... grinning to myself with delight, because the American Gods comic is going to be an astonishing, faithful, and beautiful adaptation."
Closing quote

The comic series from Dark Horse will be written by Craig T. Russell, also known for the Gaiman adaptation Coraline, and illustrated by Scott Hampton, with covers by Glenn Gabry and Adam Brown. The above artwork is from the first cover by Gabry, which depicts the buffalo-headed man who serves as a spiritual guide to the protagonist, Shadow.

The series will consist of three story arcs called Shadows, My Ainsel, and The Moment of the Storm, which will total 27 issues. The first issue will hit comic book stories on March 15, 2017.
