Han Solo Film May Be Closing in on Female Lead; Tessa Thompson and Zoe Kravitz Testing
There may be some big news coming up about the Han Solo anthology film, as Variety is reporting that directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord are currently testing for the movie's female lead. Though some auditions for the role apparently took place this summer, it would seem that the duo may be closing in on a decision, with three different actresses in particular testing for the part. The three young women currently vying for the role are Tessa Thompson (Selma, Creed), Zoe Kravitz (Dope, Mad Max: Fury Road), and Naomi Scott (Power Rangers).

Current rumors have Sana Starros, a character introduced in the comics last year, as the character currently being cast. She showed up seemingly out of nowhere, claiming to be Han's wife. Han later admitted that they faked a wedding in order to "get back at a crime lord who had been double crossing spice smugglers." Given that the comics are canon, it would certainly seem to make sense for Sana to make a cinematic appearance. However, the creatives behind the film have been playing it pretty close to the chest with plot points and other details (as has become the norm for Star Wars films), so there's no way to know for sure until Lord and Miller confirm.

A young Lando Calrissian is also currently being cast, and early rumors have Donald Glover (The Martian, Atlanta) taking the part. However, those rumors also involved reports of a second round of tests so that the directors could ensure that they have the right man for the job. It's highly possible that such rumors are accurate, as Glover wouldn't confirm or deny their validity upon inquiry by Time.

The Han Solo standalone film is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated projects on Disney's Star Wars slate. Judging by how carefully the directors seem to be proceeding with their decisions, however, it looks like the project is in good hands.

The currently untitled Han Solo anthology film is slated for a release on March 25th, 2018.
