The First Trailer for Doctor Who Spinoff ‘Class’ Hits the Web
Whovians have known for a while now that another Doctor Who spinoff in the same vein as Torchwood or The Sarah Jane Adventures would be heading to the small screen. Over the past few months, there's been a lot of buzz about casting decisions and character confirmations for Class, the new BBC series that focuses on the teens of Coal Hill High School. Now, fans have finally been given their first taste of what Class is going to be like in the form of the first official trailer, and it definitely doesn't disappoint.

Class seems like it may be more of a YA approach to the Doctor Who universe, and judging from the trailer, it would seem that it will focus on those creepy sci-fi mysteries, such as what the Doctor encountered in "Midnight" or "Listen." As the scarier side of the Whoniverse is arguably the most popular side of it, that means Class could end up appealing to quite a significant part of the fanbase.

There's also something really special about the fact that the primary setting for class is the same as the very first Doctor Who episode from back in 1963. Of course, the Doctor's granddaughter, Susan, was an attendee of Coal Hill, and his first two companions were teachers who he basically kidnapped when they came to talk with the Doctor about Susan's bizarre behavior. Since then, the beloved Time Lord has revisited the institution on a number of occasions, most recently in the series 8 episode "Caretaker." In fact, the Doctor's last companion, Clara Oswald, taught there for a time as well.

Peter Capaldi will be making an appearance in the new show, which is now evidenced by the trailer, and it's presumed that he may keep popping back up to check on his pupils. Either way, Class seems to be shaping up to be a lot of creepy fun, and Whovians shouldn't want to miss it.

Class is coming to the BBC on October 22nd, and will premiere on BBC America in Spring 2017.
