The Duffer Brothers Say Some of the Fan Theories About Season 2 Are Correct

Stranger Things came out with a mysterious teaser for season two that not only announced the release date, but seemed to reveal the season two episode titles (or "chapter" titles, as they're calling them). Now, it seems that was too good to be true, and we only got the first drafts/non-spoiler-y versions of the chapter titles. But even so, they're relevant enough that savvy fans have concocted correct (or partially correct) theories about season two from those titles.

Speaking with THR, the Duffer brothers said that those were the episode titles, but that they were subject to change:

Opening quote
"Netflix had another teaser, but it was about going back to stuff that had happened already," said Matt Duffer. "I thought it wasn't exciting enough, and we wanted to provide some hint of where we were going in season two without giving anything away. I do think some of the titles will change. There were titles we didn't want to put on there because we felt like it would give too much away. The whole season was already broken when we did this."

But they insist that whether or not they are the final episode titles, they are still revealing enough that some of the fan theories about them are correct:

Opening quote
"Even if they aren't the final chapter titles, everything in that teaser is major," said Matt. "But they're ambiguous enough that no one is going to be able to figure it out. Some of the fan theories online are amazing. Most are wrong, but I've read a few that are right or very close. Is it Reddit? Some of those people have figured stuff out based off of the chapter titles."

They amended that they don't actually go on Reddit too much, since they "would never get out if [they] went in there," but still, that's pretty great encouragement to keep speculating on those episode titles. Who knows, maybe the Stranger Things Reddit thread will spoil plot points a year in advance.

Some of these theories are elaborate and smart. They're not crap," said Ross Duffer. "I love reading this stuff.
