Scarlett Johansson Is Still Talking to Marvel About a Black Widow Movie
It's been way past time for a female-led Marvel movie for a while now, and although we're getting Captain Marvel in 2018, it will take much more than that to even the scales. The obvious choice is Black Widow, considering the popularity of both the character and the actress, so will Marvel ever stop hemming and hawing and give us a Black Widow movie? According to Scarlett Johansson, talks are still ongoing, and it's a definite possibility.

In an interview with Variety, Johansson said that she talks about a standalone movie "often," and that the character is important to the studio:

Opening quote
"Yeah, of course," she said when asked if she's still talking to Marvel about the film. "I talked to them about it often. It would have to fit in the idea of where they want to go. I'm invested in that character. Marvel is greatly invested in that character.

Well jeez, let's hope Marvel is invested in the character. Not only is she a bad-ass, she's played by the highest-grossing actress of all time. They should have greenlit this movie like, yesterday. And according to Johansson, they still might, but the fans have to want it badly enough:

Opening quote
"It's a possibility," she said when asked if the movie could be a prequel. "There's plenty of back story. Or not. It could be something else. Where do the Avengers go? They are underground. What happens then? What happens after it all falls apart? There are so many ways you can go. I think it would just have to be very much like its own specific thing. It would have to have its own specific vibe. It would have been totally different than any of the other standalone films. I think if the fans wanted it enough, then it would probably become a reality."

Johansson also gave a few ideas as to how they could explore Natasha's backstory:

Opening quote
"There's a lot of places you can go - you can bring it back to Russia. You could explore the Widow program. There's all kinds of stuff that you could do with it. You could really uncover the identity of who this person is, where she comes from and where she's part of."
Closing quote

This sounds pretty awesome, and as for whether the fans want it badly enough, Black Widow has consistently won all of the fan polls (including ours) for which character they would like to see in a standalone film next. Now we just need to get Joss Whedon to direct, and we'll be good to go.
