New Xenomorph and Horrifying Plot Details Leaked from "Alien: Covenant"
If there's one thing The X-Files taught us, it's that extraterrestrial black goo is always, always bad. That was the main moral of Ridley Scott's last installment in the Alien franchise, Prometheus, the sort-of-not-really prequel to the original Alien. A lot of people walked away from Prometheus with a sour taste in their mouths, but last July Michael Fassbender, who's set to star in the upcoming sequel Alien: Covenant, told fans the new movie is going to be less about confusing ancient mysteries and more about the terrifying aliens we all know and love. Oh, and by the way, the ones in Covenant are called Neomorphs.

That's right, in an interview on BBC Radio Fassbender revealed that there's gonna be a new kind of alien in Covenant. And the leaks don't stop there—according to AVP Galaxy, drawing on an unspecified source, we already know how these Neomorphs are going to work:

Opening quote
These Aliens are the result of the local ecosystem being mutated by the accelerant/black goo. Over time, pods started to grow on the trees and the ground, and release a spore when disturbed. These spores infect several members of the Covenant crew by entering the body through the ear and nostrils. The spores cause the growth of the Neomorphs inside the infected hosts – something that is reminiscent of William Gibson's first draft of Alien 3. One of the Neomorphs bursts from the back of one of the infected crew, a "backburster". The other crewmember's Neomorph erupts through their throat.

Xenomorphs are refreshingly straightforward compared to whatever the hell Shaw's squid-baby and the Deacon were in Promotheus—they're giant biomechanical predators that inject parasites into their victims to create more offspring. They're up-front with their horrifying violations of all that is holy. The new kinds of aliens, especially these Neomorphs, sound like they're much more subtle—they're using the environment to spread themselves, as well as spores. They still like to burst out of people's bodies, though, and the introduction of "backbursters" is particularly exciting (and disgusting). But according to AVG Galaxy, they've got more details on what the Neomorphs will actually look like:

Opening quote
The births are preceded by the eruption of two small dorsal spikes. These spikes and a pointed skull are also used to break out of an embryonic sack (similar to the Deacon in Prometheus). The Neomorph resembles some of the older concept art of the proto-Aliens from Prometheus...specifically the white colouration, with a pointed head and two dorsal spines. When they mature, they grow significantly larger and walk on their back legs...Unlike the earlier Prometheus concepts, the Neomorphs also have tails.

As AVPG helpfully notes, the white xenomorph design was referenced in early drafts of one of the movies (check page 84 for the description).

To be clear, we don't know where AVPG is getting all the previous details from—the things in this "leak" have not been confirmed yet, and no source has been cited. Still, if they prove true, we may be in for a wholly different kind of Alien movie.
