Leaked Walking Dead Video Reveals an Alternate Negan Victim
After last year's infamous cliffhanger on The Walking Dead, the rumors were flying like crazy. Fans were, of course, speculating on which character would meet Lucille, but reports were also trickling out that the producers filmed multiple death scenes in order to pick a character after the fact. Now, an unaired scene from the bloody premiere has leaked, and it shows a different (and seriously tragic) victim:

Spoilers for The Walking Dead season 7 follow!

In the above video, which seems to be grainy but fairly legit alternate footage from the show, Glenn is knocked unconscious, and then Maggie is on the receiving end of Negan's bat. From the footage, it seems that an alternate ending (beginning?) saw Negan kill Maggie instead of Abraham, and then kill Glenn as he did in the premiere.

The question is whether this is just bonus footage for the Blu-ray, or whether they were actually considering killing off Maggie, but all signs point to the former. First, Maggie was not only a fan favorite, she was pregnant, and even Walking Dead fans might have thought that brutally killing off a pregnant woman was over the line. Second, The Walking Dead worked overtime to make sure that Negan's victim remained a secret right up until the bloody premiere, taking measures like going into hiding for most of production and refusing to give out any screeners to critics, so this might just confirm that rumor that alternate death scenes were filmed to throw off the fans. And most importantly, Michael Cudlitz admitted that he's known about his character's impending doom for over a year, well before the finale was filmed.

But still, there's a chance that they were toying with the idea of killing Maggie right around the finale, since she seemed like the other most likely character (aside from maybe Daryl). By killing Maggie, they not only would have remixed Glenn's death in a suitably tragic (and probably exploitative) way, but they would have avoided dealing with the logistics of another young child in the post-apocalypse. We would say it was probably just filmed to throw people off track, but you never know.

The Walking Dead airs on Sundays at 9pm on AMC.
