Doug Liman Discusses His Unconventional Vision for Justice League Dark
Though some Marvel fans may have been sad to see Doug Liman exit the Gambit project, DC fans were overjoyed to hear that he'd joined Justice League Dark. Before Liman was confirmed to direct, the status of the project had been called into question, with things seemingly sitting idle after Guillermo Del Toro's departure from the film. However, now that things are back on track, DC fans can begin looking forward to characters like Zatanna, Deadman, Swamp Thing, Etrigan, Constantine, and a number of others making their big screen debut.

Recently, IGN had the chance to chat with Liman regarding some of his upcoming projects, and they were also able to get some of his thoughts on Justice League Dark:

Opening quote
Yeah, I mean first of all, I love those characters, and I love Warner Bros., and I love [producer] Scott Rudin, and it's - and you know, I get asked to come in and do things that are 'unconventional.' If people want conventional, they don't come to me. It's why doing Invisible was like right up my alley - because how can you be conventional when there aren't even conventions that exist? And so you know when Warner Bros. wants to sort of turn the comic book genre on its head, they call me.
Closing quote

Liman obviously sounds confident about taking this project on, and incorporating unconventional styles of storytelling into the comic book movie genre will hopefully give him the opportunity to offer a totally unique and fresh take on things. Justice League Dark is undoubtedly an unconventional team, and the film could really benefit from utilizing unconventional techniques to match the style.

As of now, Justice League Dark has no set release date. Just as well, no casting announcements have been made as of yet. It's likely that a big name hero (probably Batman) will make a cameo in the film, but aside from speculation, there's very little that can be said about the project. Guillermo Del Toro's script will likely play an influential role in shaping the project, especially in the early phases, but it might be prudent to expect many of his ideas to get scrapped as Liman begins fleshing out his vision.
