Why Kylo Ren Will Probably Turn to the Light Side
Darth Vader originally seemed like the embodiment of true evil, but once we found out he was Luke and Leia's father, it was only a matter of time before he redeemed himself and returned to the Light Side. Now we're left wondering about the ultimate fate of his successor/grandson Kylo Ren, who was also revealed to have significant family connections to prominent Jedi Knights in the series. So far, he's proven himself to be a true Sith, but the Star Wars saga follows a specific formula, and that means Kylo will probably return to the light side of the Force.

Kylo desperately wants to be like his grandfather Darth Vader, and if that's any indication, then it's very possible he'll end up being exactly that. Vader was driven by emotion, and so is Kylo. J.J Abrams recently revealed in the Blu-ray commentary that Kylo wasn't pretending to feel conflicted in that scene with Han, but really did struggle with killing his father. That show of conscience is definitely a hint that he has the potential to follow in his grandfather's footsteps, and have a dramatic change of heart (likely right before his untimely death).

Although it seems better for the story for Kylo to remain a Sith, his return as a Jedi will likely happen by the end of Episode IX. I'm sure it will have something to do with the mystery of Rey's parentage. Especially if she turns out to be his cousin (or better yet, his reincarnated grandfather), she will likely have some sort of effect on him that will cause him to see the "light."

And while it's hard to imagine him just returning home with Leia after killing his father, there's a chance that he won't die a villain/newly redeemed hero's death. In Episode I, Qui Gon prophesied that Anakin Skywalker would bring balance to the Force, which he apparently did when he killed himself and Emperor Palpatine. But it seems that the balance is once again off-kilter, now that Kylo Ren has used the dark side of the Force to wipe out the Jedi. So how does that fit into the original prophecy?

I've always speculated the extent of the prophecy Qui Gon had all those years ago. The specifics were never explained, but I thought it was possible that Anakin bringing balance to the Force could have also been referring to giving birth to the twins (Luke and Leia). If they were a part of the prophecy, then Kylo, or in this case Ben, could be part of that balance as well. If we follow the Star Wars formula, then Kylo returning to the light side will balance the scales once more.

The answers will quickly unfold once Episode VIII comes out next year, but for now it seems as though Kylo will follow in Vader's footsteps, which means becoming a Jedi once again!
