Westworld Is Officially Greenlit For a Second Season!
Only three days after we reported that chances for a second season of Westworld were looking good, lo and behold! We're huge fans of Westworld, from the soundtrack to the mind-bending narratives and fan theories, and now that we know this first season won't be the last, we can take a big sigh of relief. We don't know whether Season 2 will be a return to the Westworld park we know or take place in the other two 'Worlds' from Michael Crichton's film (Medieval World or Roman World), but Casey Bloys, HBO's executive of programming, has told EW a few details about the upcoming season.

When asked about when the new season will air, Bloys said:

Opening quote
My suspicion is sometime in 2018 because of how big the world is and what goes into shooting it. So I don't have a date exactly – they're going to have to map it out and write the scripts – but my guess is sometime in '18.

When asked about details concerning the Season 2 pitch:

Opening quote
Jonah and Lisa great storytellers. I didn't know exactly what to expect in season 2. And what they came up with is as exciting, mysterious and as fun as season 1. And completely original, as well.
Closing quote

The first season, which is on its seven episode at the time of writing this, has been praised for its innovative take on its source material and it's fascinating, Blade Runner-esque exploration of the borders of humanity. It's also been at the center of a sizable controversy regarding sexual violence, much like that other major HBO show, Game of Thrones. Casey Bloys has spoken about the future of Westworld in the past, including that intense violence, but the general consensus is that fans want the show to keep pushing boundaries and not shy away from depicting some pretty disturbing stuff. We wouldn't have it any other way.

Westworld airs Sunday nights at 9 PM on HBO.
