HBO Still Discussing Game of Thrones Prequel Series with George R.R. Martin
We've been hearing about a possible Game of Thrones spin-off for quite a while, most likely a prequel, but there still hasn't been any official confirmation. Now, HBO has given an update on the spin-off, and confirmed ongoing talks with creator George R.R. Martin.
Opening quote
I would say it's still kind of preliminary ongoing talks," HBO programming president Casey Bloys told EW. "There are areas we are exploring, but I wouldn't point to any one and say, 'This is what we're going to do.'
Closing quote

This isn't terribly concrete, but it's in keeping with the theme of the entire interview: HBO wants as much GOT as humanly possible. When asked how many episodes they would order for season 8, Bloys answered, "I'll take as much as we can get." So barring a refusal from George R.R. Martin, it's safe to say that there will be a Game of Thrones spin-off series, one way or another.

Game of Thrones season 7 airs on HBO in spring 2017.
