Willem Dafoe Discusses Playing Vulko in Justice League and Aquaman
Willem Dafoe has already left his mark on the comic book movie industry by playing the Green Goblin in Raimi's first Spider-Man film, but now he's giving the genre another go as Nuidis Vulko, advisor to the King of Atlantis, in both Justice League and Aquaman. Recently Dafoe sat down for an interview with Guardian in which he was asked about his new role.

Opening quote
As much as you enjoy working on personal films by strong directors, you're also making Justice League, which is presumably the opposite of that.

Well, Justice League is very particular because it's an ensemble movie and my character is being introduced here in order to be a principal role in Aquaman. These films are a different experience. They have different responsibilities, different resources and different intentions. It's nice to go between those worlds if you can. They serve different impulses.
Closing quote

While much can be said about Vulko's role in the comics, that's not the case for the upcoming cinematic version of the character, and Dafoe's comments don't change that. It was expected that he will make a brief cameo in Justice League (just as Iris West will be for the Flash and Alfred will be for Batman), but it's interesting to hear that he'll have a "principal role" in Aquaman. Vulko is only a secondary character in most Aquaman comics (coming and going like Jimmy Olsen in Superman or Harvey Bullock in Batman), but it certainly makes sense that he would play a larger part in Aquaman's origin story, which will undoubtedly deal with Arthur learning of his heritage as Atlantean royalty.

The next Justice League footage will likely come in the form of the trailer, expected to be released next month. However, there's still a year until the film premieres on November 17th, 2017. Aquaman is currently slated for a release on July 27, 2018.
