Doctor Strange Is the Biggest Debut Solo Movie in the MCU
Marvel's not going to stop its winning streak anytime soon. Amidst all the talk about the oversaturation of superhero movies, Marvel keeps churning out critically acclaimed hits and topping its own records. Case in point: its most recent film, Doctor Strange, has just passed $616 million worldwide, making it the highest grossing solo introduction in the Marvel Universe.

Until this weekend, the highest grossing solo debut was Iron Man, which single-handedly kicked off the MCU and made $582 million worldwide. With $616 million, Doctor Strange has surpassed Iron Man, as well as The Incredible Hulk (obviously), Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor, and Ant-Man. At this rate, it will most likely pass Thor: The Dark World ($645 million) and Iron Man 2 ($624 million) before the end of its theatrical run, and even has a chance of passing Guardians of the Galaxy at $773 million, especially since it hasn't even opened in Japan yet.

If that happens, it would make Doctor Strange the biggest introduction movie in the Marvel Universe, bar none. It, of course, has no chance of passing the group movies (Avengers, Age of Ultron, and Civil War), or Iron Man 3, which also passed a billion, but that would just be crazy. This is the best possible outcome Marvel could have hoped for, and demonstrates that there is still a whole lot of life left in the franchise (if there were any doubt).

Doctor Strange is now playing in theaters.
