Eliza Dushku Brings 'Con Man' to Another Level
After an amazing season premiere and slightly disappointing subsequent episodes (albeit ones that featured Nathan Fillion's bald head), Con Man may have found its footing with one of its best geeky cameos: Whedonverse alum Eliza Dushku, whose brilliant turn as a brutally honest casting director gave us some of the funniest moments of the season.

The fifth episode, "Dick Lansing," saw Wray seek out the help of the second-best mo-cap actor out there for his audition for the limping, lisping sidekick on "Doctor Cop Lawyer." This episode was funny enough, especially when the guy freaked out at his students mimicking apes because he has beef with Andy Serkis ("He can only do one thing! Gollum was a gibbon!") or when he accidentally misstates the name of Wray's show as "Speculum" (poor Wray). But like the unfortunate testicle-squishing sequence last week, the gag is fairly limited and goes on for far too long.

But then, the second episode, "Gum Drop," is by far the funniest since the premiere, mostly due to Eliza Dushku's welcome presence. She provides a fresh injection of energy into the proceedings, and her deadpan comedic timing is on point (and I'm not just saying that because I'm a huge Buffy/Dollhouse fan). Everything she says is hilarious, from her brutal teardown of a hapless auditionee right before Wray to her dead-serious declaration that the group of small children in the back is "the social media team—we answer to THEM." And now that Wray (mild spoiler!) seems to have gotten a role in "Doctor Cop Lawyer," hopefully her role will amount to more than just another fun geeky cameo.

Con Man season two is now streaming on Comic-Con HQ.
