Check Out New Photos and Storyboards From Sci-Fi Thriller 'Okja'
Horror aficionados will know Bong Joon-Ho from The Host, but most of us know him from a different movie: the infamous Snowpiercer, which is apparently getting its own TV series at some point. Now Joon-Ho is working on the highly anticipated Okja, which will include The Walking Dead's Steven Yeun, post-headbash. Not much is known about the film yet (Jake Gyllenhaal and Tilda Swinton will also return to star), but the basic plot is that a young girl named Mija must save her mysterious animal friend Okja from the clutches of a multinational company.

Mixed into this struggle is apparently an animal rights group, including Lily Collins' character Red. Here's are some newly released photos of Red in action, courtesy of EW (click both images to enlarge):

Here's how Joon-Ho describes Red's role in the movie (and what she and Mija are up against):

Opening quote
"Red is part of a group of animal rights activists that figure into the story," teases Joon-ho, who filmed in the Financial District. "On Wall Street, it's the heart of capitalism," the director notes. "On the surface is a story about an animal, but it's essentially a story about capitalism."
Closing quote

So far the film sounds a bit like Free Willy meets The Last Guardian, but no photos have been released of Okja itself yet, and Joon-Ho won't say much about the creature besides "It's a very shy and introverted animal. It's a unique animal that we've not seen before." Well, considering that Star Wars Episode VIII will reportedly feature murderous alien puffins on Luke's island, we doubt that anything can surprise us at this point.

Okja is set to release in US theaters in 2017.
