Deadpool Creator Rob Liefeld Secures His Own Cinematic Universe

In case Marvel, DC, and the X-Men weren't already enough for you, get ready for yet another cinematic universe of comic book heroes.

Artist and writer Rob Liefeld, best known nowadays for creating Deadpool for Marvel in the '90s, could soon see some of his less-heralded creations on the big screen. Producers Graham King and Fundamental Films have secured the rights to make movies based on Liefeld's Extreme Universe, which were first published by Image Comics. Here's what Liefeld said about the deal:

Opening quote
"Over the past nearly 25 years, since launching Image Comics, I've been lucky enough to see the power of these stories and characters as they've resonated with several generations of comic book fans. To now be able to work with [producer] Akiva Goldsman and Graham King, who are powerhouses in their own right, to bring these compelling characters and conflicts to life on the big screen is nothing short of a dream come true!"
Closing quote

For the uninitiated, the Extreme Universe comprises over 100 characters across 9 titles, including the teams Bloodstrike and Brigade. And like Deadpool, their content is decidedly more violent and adult than the average Marvel or DC title. Liefeld both wrote and drew most of his titles, and he had an exaggerated art style which fit the '90s like a glove.

No word yet on when, or even if, production will begin on the films, but Liefeld is no doubt hoping it happens sometime before the superhero movie bubble inevitably bursts.
