Netflix Show 'Trollhunters' Gets A 'Stranger Things' Themed Trailer
While a legitimate Stranger Things season 2 trailer is still a long ways away, it's clearly given its blessing to another Netflix show, Guillermo del Toro's Trollhunters. Since the official, re-cut trailer for the animated series includes the Stranger Things theme, its font, and even a cameo from its best character.

Released last month, Trollhunters follows a regular kid named Jim who suddenly finds himself the defender of both our world and a second, "upside-down" world full of trolls. Some trolls are evil and so Jim must hunt them, and some are good and he doesn't hunt those ones. If it sounds like the typical "chosen one/coming-of-age" premise, it's still good and colorful fun, and it's del Toro's latest project while he makes Pacific Rim 2 (and while he doesn't make Hellboy 3). It's also one of the final roles by the late Anton Yelchin, who voices Jim.

And of course, it also fits perfectly with the Stranger Things vibe. Here's the re-cut trailer from Netflix:

In terms of its general aesthetic, it has a sort of '80s theme much like Stranger Things, and del Toro pitched it as "an Amblin 1980s series with a scope of fantasy and mythology that was unrivaled on TV." For reference, Amblin Entertainment made a ton of defining 1980s films like E.T., The Goonies, Gremlins, and Back to the Future, as well as most movies directed by Steven Spielberg (since it's his production company). So if you haven't seen it, expect the show to be somewhere in that ballpark.

If you're curious to see the original, non-Stranger Things version of the trailer, that one gives a bit more information on the story, although Dustin's sadly not in this one:

Trollhunters is currently available on Netflix. Season 2 of Stranger Things is expected to drop in summer 2017.
