'Deadpool' Awards Show Successes Could Improve Its Oscar Chances
Deadpool doesn't seem like the type of film that movie critics and voters of prestigious film awards typically go for. It is, after all, a superhero movie whose protagonist curses like a sailor, gets pegged, and mocks his elderly blind roommate. But the film has received tons of love this awards season, and some fans think an Oscar may come calling next.

The movie won Best Comedy and Best Actor in a Comedy at the Critics' Choice Awards last month, received nominations in those same categories at the Golden Globes, picked up a nomination from the Writers Guild for Best Adapted Screenplay (which will be decided next month), and just today was nominated by the Producers Guild for Best Picture. That's right, Deadpool is up for the PGA for Best Picture against the likes of Oscar favorites La La Land, Moonlight, and Manchester by the Sea.

Although Deadpool is by no means a favorite to take home an Oscar, its recent awards season love no longer makes it seem far-fetched for the movie to receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. Mad Max: Fury Road, which also wasn't your typical Oscar movie, was nominated in the category last year, and even though it lost, it did end the night by taking home the most Oscars of the night with six.

So good luck, Deadpool, we'll be rooting for you when the Oscar nominees are announced on January 24.
