First 'Defenders' Photos Bring Luke Cage, Daredevil and Jessica Jones
With three extremely successful Netflix shows under their belt, Marvel is finally preparing for the release of their upcoming series The Defenders, a sort of mini-Avengers bringing together Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and newcomer Iron Fist, a martial artist whose Netflix show is still on the way.

An Entertainment Weekly feature released the first official photos of the team, with Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter and Finn Jones gathering on a gritty New York street to solve whatever gritty New York crime is thrown their way this time around.

As to who they'll be fighting, that would be the new villain Alexandra, to be played by Sigourney Weaver. Not too much is revealed beyond that Alexandra is an "utter badass" befitting of a big name like Weaver's, who showrunner Marco Ramirez describes as "sophisticated, intellectual, dangerous." So expect her to send plenty of henchmen and hallway fight scenes (as Daredevil is fond of) toward our heroes.

EW also put together a video full of interviews with the stars. Finn Jones (most well known for playing Loras Tyrell in Game of Thrones) mostly talks about who exactly Iron Fist is, since Marvel's Iron Fist doesn't come out until March. Colter, Ritter, and Cox talk more about their characters' personalities, and how (especially for Jessica Jones and Daredevil) they're stubborn and not easy to work with, which always makes for entertaining team-ups. In fact, according to Marvel's head of TV Jeph Loeb, a rough team-up where no one gets along is precisely the intention:

Opening quote
"The Defenders didn't have a 'D' on their belt buckles and a Defenders Tower. We agreed from the very beginning that these folks could at the very end go, 'I never want to see your face again.'"
Closing quote

Marvel's The Defenders will premiere Summer 2017 on Netflix, while Iron Fist will come out March 17, 2017. Marvel has also announced a comic book series by Brian Michael Bendis, which comes out in June 2017.
