'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' Toys Show Off Kurt Russell's Ego
This isn't the first time we've seen a Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 character through a toy announcement first, after a Funko figure of the villainous Ayesha was revealed last week. But this time, through Funko again, we're getting a first look at Kurt Russell's character of Ego the Living Planet. Despite being kept under wraps from the general public, he's been a source of much chatter over whether he'd look like a giant planet with a face (as he does in the comics) or like Kurt Russell.

Turns out, the answer is "like Kurt Russell." Here's the Pop figure of Ego, posted by the film's director James Gunn:

One of the weirder characters in a film already including a talking raccoon and tree person, Ego the Living Planet is indeed a planet-sized being of immense power, first appearing as a villain in 1960s Thor comics. The living planet made headlines with the news that he'd be played by Russell, and also that he'd be the father of Star Lord (Chris Pratt). Ego looking like a human makes the most sense; seeing as star Chris Pratt didn't look like he was half-planet in the first film, there'd be some more explaining to do if Ego had his comic book appearance.

However, Gunn's Instagram caption includes an important note that this is "Kurt Russell in human form as Ego the Living Planet" (emphasis ours). This backs up the Vol. 2 footage screened at San Diego Comic Con but not released publicly, which reportedly includes Ego explaining that he created a human-looking body for himself so he could have children. It was then followed by Drax (Dave Bautista) and Star Lord bickering over whether Ego made himself human genitals as well, because this is Guardians of the Galaxy we're talking about.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 comes out May 5, 2017.
