'Godzilla' Sequel Will Star Eleven From 'Stranger Things'
Netflix
Godzilla: King of Monsters, the planned sequel to the 2014 American reboot of Godzilla, is getting stranger. Which is to say, they've cast one of the Stranger Things stars in a leading role: Millie Bobby Brown, who played the quiet but very psychic Eleven in the hit Netflix show.

We've only gotten very limited news about the movie so far, so information about the film's plot or who Brown will play are all under wraps. The only confirmed character we have right now is Godzilla, which would be a very surprising choice for Brown (not to say she couldn't pull it off), so let's assume she'll be an original character for now. There's no word on whether anyone from the previous film's cast like Aaron Taylor-Johnson or Elizabeth Olsen will return either.

Oddly, the current slew of Legendary's Godzilla films are preparing for an eventual crossover with King Kong, specifically the version appearing in Kong: Skull Island on March 10, 2017. Skull Island was specifically transferred from Universal to Warner Bros. during production for this purpose, because everybody wants their own cinematic universe nowadays. In that sense, King of Monsters reads less like a standard title and more like a challenge, although the two movie monsters won't fight until the planned Godzilla vs. Kong the next year in 2020. Again, cinematic universes at work.

The director's chair was recently passed to the film's writer Michael Dougherty, despite buzz that Gareth Edwards (of Rogue One) would be returning to direct after helming the 2014 film. Dougherty's expertise is mostly in horror films, having written and directed Krampus and Trick 'r Treat, as well as some superhero fare like X2 and Superman Returns. Between Brown's ties to lighthearted shows with horror elements, and the director's horror films with comedic elements, we may be getting some very strong clues about what sort of atmosphere we'll see in King of Monsters.

In the meantime, expect to see Brown in season 2 of Stranger Things, which is very hopefully going to drop a trailer or teaser or something soon. Godzilla: King of Monsters is slated to come out on March 22, 2019.
