The Mountain Goats and Rian Johnson Write a 'Last Jedi' Themed Song
Lucasfilm/Disney
Star Wars: The Last Jedi has fans on the edge of their seats wondering what comes next for Rey, Finn, and the other heroes in the long running saga. One development that they perhaps did not anticipate was "the ultimate Jedi who wastes all the other Jedi and eats their bones," if this new song by The Mountain Goats means anything.

Rian Johnson, writer and director of The Last Jedi, revealed on his Twitter feed that he and folk band The Mountain Goats were hanging out in a recording studio, and started to mess around with an idea inspired by the new movie. They ended up with an oddball song, and while Johnson jokes that it's "now canon", meaning the song is an official extension of the Star Wars universe, it's pretty clearly meant to be a joke.

Or is it?

Of course it's meant as a joke. The title itself is so tongue in cheek that it gives the game away: "The Ultimate Jedi Who Wastes All The Other Jedi And Eats Their Bones", which actually might make for a very interesting spin off movie. If it wasn't clear from the name, the song is about a Jedi learning that they'll eventually be eaten by the real last Jedi, who eats bones "like parsnips on his plate" because they have so much calcium in them.

The song also explicitly mentions Rian, who's probably not canon in the Star Wars universe. Still, it's an enjoyable enough song, and shows that the reach of Star Wars extends to a wide variety of other art forms. First we had Lin-Manuel Miranda, now a folk band. The stars could truly be the limit for Star Wars musical inspiration.
