John Boyega Gives a First Look at His Character in 'Pacfic Rim: Uprising'
John Boyega is already well on his way to becoming a science-fiction legend: after starring as Finn the stormtrooper in J.J. Abram's reboot of the Star Wars franchise (you may have heard of it), he has now moved on to star in the sequel to another wildly popular sci-fi series, Pacific Rim. This time, he's taking over from fellow Brit and sci-fi veteran Idris Elba, who played Stacker Pentecost in the original, to play the lead role of Jake Pentecost. Yesterday, Boyega posted a photo of himself looking ready to kick some ass for the film with the simple line "I am Pentecost."

The original Pacific Rim took place on a futuristic Earth where humans battle giant inter-dimensional monsters known as the Kaiju, which have appeared in the Pacific Ocean. To fight them off, humans have created giant mechs know as Jaegers that require two pilots connected through a mental link. While details are still scarce about what the new movie will be about, you can bet it will involve some sweet mecha-on-monster action and some sort of revenge/redemption story for Boyega's character, who will be carrying on the Pentecost legacy.

Pacific Rim: Uprising is scheduled to hit US theaters on February 23rd, 2018.
