Thanks to social media, our everyday lives are being shared and broadcast more than ever. An entire generation will come of age where it is very possible that from their birth all the way to their death, every single moment will be captured, tweeted, snapped, shared, liked and commented on. A growing diagnosis has even taken shape to describe those who can't seem to unplug and live an unshared life: social media addiction.

The Circle, which stars Emma Watson and Tom Hanks, revolves chiefly around this idea and it spells out as much in its new trailer:

The movie, directed by James Ponsoldt and based on the novel by Dave Eggers, poses the question of whether it's better if the world is always watching. Mae, played by Watson, is a new hire at the world's foremost social media company, but as she quickly rises through the ranks she is pressured to share more and more of her personal life with the masses. Eventually the conflict comes to a head when she is asked to engage in a new social media experiment that brings in personal and family secrets that she isn't comfortable sharing. Meanwhile, Hanks' character, which seems to be in the mold of Steve Jobs, wants to believe that total transparency is the key to a better future.

At the very least, The Circle could finally give us "Tom Hanks, Supervillain," which would be quite the change from his usual All-American good guy persona.

The Circle premieres in US theaters on April 28th, 2017.
